Turkmenistan grows the cotton, spins the yarn, weaves the denim and cuts the garment inside its own borders. The Türkmenbaşy jeans complex — GAP-Türkmen CJSC, operating since 1996 on the Ashgabat–Türkmenbaşy road — runs denim weaving and garment making on one site under the Ministry of Textile Industry.
Turkmen denim garments are quoted on the state commodity exchange without the cost of accessories — buttons, rivets, zips, labels and packaging are priced separately or supplied by the buyer. Compare that against a Turkish or Bangladeshi FOB quote, which normally includes trims, or the Turkmen figure will look lower than it is.
