Indicators 1–6 are calculated on a dry basis. For liquid sulfur of grade 9998 the ash content shall not exceed 0.008%, and 0.01% for grades 9995 and 9990. Lump size for export shall not exceed 200 mm.

Choosing a grade

Grades 9998 and 9995 are the high-purity grades, specified where ash and organic residue matter to the downstream process. Grade 9990 is the general industrial grade. Grades 9950 and 9920 are bulk consumption grades: 9920 in particular carries materially higher permitted ash, organic matter, arsenic, selenium and moisture, and is specified where the sulfur is burned or converted rather than used as a finished material.

Applications

Sulfuric acid production, phosphate and compound fertiliser manufacture, rubber vulcanisation, synthetic fibre production, pulp and paper, and mining and metallurgical leaching.
