Panama, half-panama and duck
All three are the same basket-weave family, separated by how much yarn is doubled and how coarse it is. Full panama doubles the yarn in warp and weft, which gives the open, chunky texture. Half-panama — ýarympanama in Turkmen, полупанама in the mill paperwork — doubles it one way only, so it sits closer to a plain weave: smoother face, tighter hand, and it takes a print better, which is why it is the build specified for printed table linen. Duck is the canvas end of the range: the same construction taken down to a much coarser Nm 14/1 ring yarn, giving a firm, dense cloth at 280 g/m². Buyers who ask for cotton duck or duck canvas are asking for that build.
Choosing a weight
170 g/m² is the finished printed cloth, ready to cut and sew with no further dyeing stage. 208 to 230 g/m² are the general-purpose loom-state builds and the ones the mills quote most often. 280 g/m² duck and 300 g/m² half-panama are the heavy furnishing, bag and canvas weights.
Applications
Table linen, cushion covers, curtains and light upholstery, tote and shopper bags, embroidery ground and craft use. In the duck weights: canvas bags, aprons, shoe uppers, awnings, marquee and cover work, and artists’ canvas after priming. The basket weave is dimensionally stable and holds its shape without lining.
Related
Every loom-state cloth the Turkmen mills weave is listed under grey fabric, each on one page with all of its weights. The ranges they dye, print and finish are collected under dyed cotton fabric.
Loading and delivery
Loaded in rolls at the producing mill. Contracts are normally concluded FCA the mill or FCA Ashgabat, with rail, road and Caspian routings all available.
