Mollagara lake mud is a brine peloid — a mineral sediment matured in place in the lake at Mollagara, in the Balkan region, and packed a few kilometres away at Jebel. It is the material behind the Mollagara sanatorium’s long reputation, and it is sold both to health resorts and to cosmetic formulators.
What sets it apart from the muds of better-known spas is texture and chemistry. The producer describes it as gravelly rather than sandy, so it takes up and dries quickly, and positions it directly against Dead Sea and Saki sanatorium muds. Lake mineralisation runs at 200–250 mg/l, carrying chlorides and sulfates of sodium, magnesium and iron along with bromine salts.
The plant states its applications as mud packs and wraps used in the treatment of the musculoskeletal system, arthritis and polyarthritis, neuritis and osteochondrosis, skin conditions, and recovery after injury — particularly of the joints.
