Harvest of Licorice Root Starts on Amu Darya River Banks
Buýan Agro-Industrial Complex, located in Lebap velayat’s Turkmenabat city in the northeastern Turkmenistan, started harvest of licorice roots on the banks of the Amu Darya River.
The company plans to significantly increase the production of licorice root and, accordingly, the export of purified compressed root and its semi-finished products.
The richness of biologically active substances in licorice root and its similarity to the composition of the ginseng root resulted in the increase of global demand for licorice.
Licorice root, as well as its thick and dry extracts, is exported to China, Russia, the U.S., France, the U.K., India, Serbia, the U.A.E. and South Korea.
A modern plant for processing licorice to dry licorice extract was commissioned in Turkmenabat in 2008.
The complex employs about 300 specialists who monthly collect on average up to 20-30 tons of licorice root. The harvest season starts in March and lasts until the end of November.
Buýan Agro-industrial complex collected and processed more than 54 thousand tons of licorice roots in 2019.
